This course provides an opportunity for students to undertake independent research work. It will be partly based on lectures and assignments involving searching of research topic, journal articles, carrying out referencying, and the devopment of critical reviews and research proposal. The assessment for this course will be solely assignment based and does not include any final examination.

The purpose of writing a critical review of a journal article is to help students improve their research skills. By assessing the work of others, students can develop skills as a critical reader and become familiar with the types of evaluation criteria that will be applied to research in their field and thus their own research.

The purpose of writing a research proposal is to help students focus and define their research plans. Your research proposal should show that the problem that you propose to examine is significant enough to warrant the investigation. The proposal also would help you to familiarize with the likely methodological approach that you may apply in your future research. Finally, the proposal may shed light on whether the possible results are likely to prove fruitful and will make an original contribution.
